Job Title: Spatial Modeller / Spatial Scientist – specialising in carbon sequestration in terrestrial systems

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

Natural Capital Research requires a skilled ecosystem scientist to specialise in modelling and mapping terrestrial carbon sequestration in vegetation and soils. The successful candidate will be educated to at least MSc degree level in a relevant subject such as forest ecology or plant-soil interactions and will have a good understanding of terrestrial carbon dynamics in managed ecosystems. Knowledge of carbon markets and verification schemes for nature-based solutions is desirable, but not essential.

We are a small, expanding company working on cutting-edge scientific modelling for natural capital. Led by global experts in their field, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a brilliant, highly motivated team, and contribute to our mission of addressing pressing environmental and social issues using robust and published scientific methods.

The position offers the right candidate the opportunity to work on the delivery of innovative and high-profile natural capital projects. You will have considerable experience of working with large spatial data in GIS, R or Python. Experience in forest ecology, earth observation, soil science, or land surface modelling is highly desirable. You will be trained on existing methods and models before looking to refine them and to identify and develop novel approaches with the support of the research team.

Full training on the models will be provided by the Head of Research.
