Job Title: Spatial Modeller / Spatial Scientist – specialising in carbon sequestration in terrestrial systems
DESCRIPTION OF ROLE
Natural Capital Research requires a skilled ecosystem scientist to specialise in modelling and mapping terrestrial carbon sequestration in vegetation and soils. The successful candidate will be educated to at least MSc degree level in a relevant subject such as forest ecology or plant-soil interactions and will have a good understanding of terrestrial carbon dynamics in managed ecosystems. Knowledge of carbon markets and verification schemes for nature-based solutions is desirable, but not essential.

The position offers the right candidate the opportunity to work on the delivery of innovative and high-profile natural capital projects. You will have considerable experience of working with large spatial data in GIS, R or Python. Experience in forest ecology, earth observation, soil science, or land surface modelling is highly desirable. You will be trained on existing methods and models before looking to refine them and to identify and develop novel approaches with the support of the research team.
Full training on the models will be provided by the Head of Research.

The initial contract will be full-time for 12 months. The post-holder will have a 6 month probation period.
The salary will be up to £30,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.
The post-holder will work in London or Oxford.
Position within the Team:
Post-holder will be line managed by the Head of Research who will oversee their day to day activities and will assign and review their work.
