Job Title: Natural Capital Economist / Accountant

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

We are looking for an exceptional economist or accountant with significant experience in environmental economics and / or natural capital accounting. The preferred candidate will understand the concepts and methodology underlying the UK Natural Capital accounts being developed by ONS and Defra and will have strong economic skills, particularly in the development and application of natural capital principles and environmental valuation and maximising their impacts on farms, estates, woodland and forests, river catchments, ports and urban parks.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Master's Degree in economics and/or accounting or related experience of natural capital and natural capital accounting

  • Knowledge of the concepts and methodology underlying the UK Natural Capital accounts being developed by ONS and Defra

  • Experience of designing, structuring and applying economic analysis to a wide range of policy problems across multiple topic areas

  • Leading, managing and contributing to complex proposals and projects where there is a strong focus on economic and wider quantitative analysis

  • Strong knowledge and experience of the application of ecosystem services for business.

  • Experience manipulating, analysing and interpreting financial and statistical data; and communicating analytical results to technical and non-technical audiences

  • A good understanding of key economic instruments used in environmental policy

  • Excellent team player with experience working in multi-disciplinary groups, using influence and interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with clients, corporations, partners, and all levels of staff

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Highly educated ideally with 1-3 years’ experience

  • Highly numerate, with a track record in carrying out complex quantitative analysis

  • Effective and proactive team worker, capable of supporting and developing peers and other staff members

  • Strong spreadsheet (or R) experience essential and proficiency in using statistical or mathematical software is desirable

  • Experience working with companies

  • Demonstrated project management capabilities; experience leading complex projects with scientific and policy attributes preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and implement complex projects in an unstructured environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation skills

  • Highly motivated with a strong desire to work in the environmental sector

  • Demonstrated leadership and visionary qualities and able to work effectively with and through others in a complex, decentralized and geographically dispersed organizational environment

Contract:

The initial contract will be for two years in the first instance.

 

Salary:

Market rate.

 

Location:

Flexible location but ideally London. Position will require frequent travel to London and Oxford.

 

Position within the Team:

Post-holder will be line managed by the COO who will oversee their day to day activities and will assign and review their work. They will have a dotted line to the company directors.
